Discover moreMarine Platforms Limited has delivered continuous Inspection, Maintenance and Repair (IMR) services on the Bonga Field since 2013 — one of the most sustained deepwater support contracts in Nigerian offshore history. Operating in water depths of 1,000–1,200 metres, MPL’s team has executed hundreds of interventions, installations, and maintenance campaigns across the field’s extensive subsea infrastructure.
The scope encompasses the full IMR lifecycle: Xmas tree installation and intervention, jumper deployment and replacement, flying lead management, metrology surveys for pipeline positioning verification, asset recovery operations, well marking and identification, and comprehensive inspection and maintenance of all subsea production systems. Using the Siem Marlin and African Vision vessels.
Maintaining continuous IMR operations on a producing deepwater field for over 12 years demands exceptional operational discipline, rigorous safety management, and deep technical expertise. The Bonga engagement has seen MPL execute 226 individual asset recovery operations — one of the largest recovery portfolios in West African deepwater — alongside 38 metrology surveys ensuring pipeline integrity and 37 well marking campaigns maintaining clear subsea asset identification. The partnership with client has established MPL as a trusted long-term IMR provider capable of sustaining safe, efficient operations across the full lifecycle of a major deepwater development.
Marine Platforms Limited has delivered continuous OIMR services on the Egina and Akpo Fields since 2018, operating across a water depth range from 40 metres shallow to 1,500 metres ultra-deepwater — the most technically demanding environment in MPL’s offshore portfolio. The scope covers Xmas tree operations, jumper management, heavy lift operations, SERS (Subsea Emergency Response System) trials, decommissioning support, and complex intervention operations.
The project has delivered 16 Xmas tree installations and interventions, 15 jumper deployments, 3 hydraulic and electrical flying leads, 5 metrology operations for subsea positioning verification, 7 Subsea Control Module (SCM) changeouts, and 7 choke changeouts. Operations are executed in partnership with TotalEnergies using the African Vision vessel, with specialist ultra-deepwater tooling and ROV systems required for work at 1,500m.
The Egina/Akpo OIMR engagement represents the pinnacle of MPL’s technical capability — delivering safe, efficient operations across an extraordinary 1,460-metre water depth range within a single field complex. At 1,500m, every intervention demands specialist deepwater tooling, precision ROV operations, and meticulous planning to manage the extreme pressure and environmental conditions. The 7 SCM changeouts and 7 choke changeouts executed at these depths demonstrate MPL’s mastery of ultra-deepwater intervention — work that few contractors in West Africa are qualified to perform. The SERS trials and heavy lift operations further underscore the breadth of capability MPL brings to this critical TotalEnergies asset.
Marine Platforms Limited’s IMR journey began on the Agbami Field in 2009 — the engagement that established MPL as Nigeria’s premier deepwater IMR provider. Operating at up to 1,500 metres water depth on one of Nigeria’s largest and deepest offshore oil producing assets, the scope spans the complete subsea lifecycle: Xmas tree and jumper installation, maintenance and intervention, flow assurance operations, flying lead management, manifold operations, SCM changeouts, acid injection campaigns, and decommissioning.
Over 15 years of continuous service, MPL has delivered 20 Xmas tree operations, 18 jumper installations, 18 hydraulic and electrical flying leads, 3 manifold installations, 27 SCM changeouts, and 14 acid injection campaigns. The project is executed for our client using the Siem Marlin and African Inspiration vessels, with specialist deepwater tooling and experienced crews maintaining safe, efficient operations at Nigeria’s most challenging water depths.
The Agbami IMR engagement is more than a project it is the foundation upon which Marine Platforms Limited built its reputation as Nigeria’s foremost deepwater IMR contractor. Starting in 2009, MPL developed its deepwater expertise through successive campaigns of increasing complexity: from initial Xmas tree and jumper installations through to sophisticated intervention operations including 27 SCM changeouts and 14 acid injection campaigns requiring precise chemical delivery at 1,500m. The 3 manifold installations represent major subsea construction scope integrated seamlessly with ongoing OIMR operations. The longevity of this engagement spanning the full production life of the Agbami Field demonstrates MPL’s ability to sustain safe, efficient operations while continuously adapting to evolving field requirements and advancing subsea
