Marine Platforms Commits To Practical Sea Time Experience Programme

Marine Platforms has committed to the training of 10 Nigerians on practical sea time experience. Kicking off on the 1st of February 2017 at varying Marine Platforms operational locations, the training is scheduled for a term of 3 years. This gap has long been identified that graduates from local Nigerian universities and marine academies have limited areas to perform the mandatory practical sea time experience that will enable them to develop their marine engineering skills and knowledge.

With its fully owned multi-purpose support vessels namely African Inspiration and African Vision, the program would see rotations across these facilities with the intention of having a robust experience from the varying vessels. The training plan of training comprises of several orientations, practical and on the job training with several modules on basic safety familiarization, engine room operations, engineering, and bridge watchkeeping, vessel maintenance, ship operations, and management, sea navigation, vessel mooring, anchoring and securing.

Being in line with the company objectives, this is fully geared toward the empowerment of the of young Nigerian professionals to bridge the skill gap in the nationâs oil and gas industry. It is worthy of mention that Marine Platforms had earlier developed a capacity building program for some Nigerians on subsea engineering and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) technology.

At the commencement of the program, the Chief Executive Officer of Marine Platforms, Mr. Taofik Adegbite, said in an interview, âAt Marine Platforms, we believe the training of Nigerians to be a worthy investment. First by ourselves, with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, and with support from other Exploration and producing oil companies. We will continue to train Nigerians aggressively and recruiting Nigerians in engineering.

It is hoped that with this training, the cadets would be eligible to obtain their Certificate of Competency (COC) and begin their rise to the ultimate plan of becoming a Chief Engineer.
