Siem Marlin Now Sails as African Concept with Marine Platforms

Lagos, Nigeria – October 10, 2024 – Marine Platforms Limited is pleased to announce the renaming of one of its key offshore assets. The vessel formerly known as Siem Marlin now proudly sails under the name African Concept, marking a bold step in the company’s long-standing commitment to African excellence and operational ownership.
Built in 2009 and Norwegian in origin, the African Concept recently completed full class dry-docking with OEM support and inspections by DNV surveyors. In line with Marine Platforms’ drive for world-class standards, the vessel is now under the technical management of V.Ships, ensuring consistent, safe, and high-quality operations.
The vessel is fully mobilised and ready to support a broad range of offshore services. It is currently deployed for an acid stimulation campaign on the Agbami field for Chevron Nigeria and will subsequently resume long-term IRM duties for TotalEnergies.
Measuring 93.6 meters, the African Concept is a DP2 multipurpose support vessel fitted with a 100-ton active heave compensated offshore crane. It is ideal for ROV operations and light construction work, with a strong track record of successful deployments across major offshore fields including Bonga, Egina, and Akpo.
Beyond its technical specifications, the renaming reflects Marine Platforms’ vision to build legacy vessels that speak to Africa’s capabilities and aspirations. African Concept is not just a name change—it is a statement of intent and ownership, showcasing the strength, heritage, and potential of African-led offshore operations.
