Journey To One Million Manhours Without LTI In Bonga Field
Marine Platforms started its subsea support services on the Bonga field in December 2012 with the scope to provide ROV and ancillary services for deep-water operations in Bonga. As part of the contract requirements, Marine Platforms mobilized it newly purchased multi-purpose vessel, the African Vision.
After an incident occurred, Marine Platforms had a review of all plans and procedures to ensure a repeat performance of the incident never occurs on any of its operations.
⢠All vessel alterations (pipes, fittings, and vents) during bulwark removal were immediately restored and subject matter experts were involved to confirm vessel systems were in good condition.
⢠Safe work procedure for removing bolts on flanges was reinforced.
⢠DNV GL now involved in all vessel modification work to check for class approval
⢠Vessel management technical role now strengthened to check/audit work activities carried out by the marine team.
⢠HAZID/MOC training was carried out for all personnel on the vessel.
⢠Use of safety tools (MOC, TBT, risk assessment, JSA and safe work plan) in routine activities was reinforced.
⢠Flange/manhole cover/hatch cover procedure was reviewed and updated.
⢠Management of change procedure was reviewed and updated.
⢠All HSE advisors were trained to NEBOSH standard.
⢠Stop work authority was re-emphasized.
Further actions taken to improve HSE Culture Onboard
⢠In 2014, MPL partnered with Optimus Seventh Generation, Aberdeen- a safety consulting company, where a safety coach was deployed on our vessels to improve conformance to a safe system at work.
⢠MPL quarterly safety theme which focuses on areas where we observe high HSE observation category.
⢠Planned senior management visit to the vessel to discuss with the crew, address issues and re-emphasis commitment to goal zero.
⢠Management review of vessel HSE performance.
⢠As a company that is committed to continual improvement of HSE management system, in 2018, MPL partnered with DEKRA, a safety consulting company in UK to provide a program that incorporated modular safe-mind-safe-body training for managers and directors and also safety coaching on the vessel to improve levels of risk perception and give workers the tools to make interventions and look after each other under a culture of care.
⢠July 4th â 9th 2018, DEKRA safety coach visited Siem Marlin in Bonga field and trained crew members on the safe-mind-safe-body workshop and intervention. The coach actively engaged with the crew, looking for âweak signals and warning signsâ that may exist.
Today, we have hit the 1-million-man hour mark and had an internal assessment to review our performance for continuous improvement. We will continue to ensure that no work is too important or simple to compromise safety. It is a core value that reinforces our culture of safe behavior.
